Five points of Architecture in the Villa De Savoye

image.png

1. Pilotis (supports)
the whole of the second storey and third storey are lifted up by reinforced concrete columns which at that time was revolutionary to free up space at the bottom for things like landscaping and sheltered parking

2. Free Floorplans
due to the fact that the building were supported using structural columns there were no load bearing walls used around the building.Additionally, minimal parition walls were used in the building allowing for a more free and open floorplan that can be changed with the user's needs

3. Free Facade
because of the lack of load bearing walls the facade treatment was not that restricted and there were more freedom for the design of the facade

4. Horizontal Windows
in addition to the free facade concept the building made use of long sliding windows to allow for natural lighting to enter the building as well as to give the occupant a panoramiric view

5. Roof Garden
Roof gardens were use on the top level as well as bits of greenery were placed on the second storey to compensate for the landscape that was destroyed to build the building.
